Distinguishing Features of the Class:

The work involves responsibility for the efficient operation and upkeep of school mechanical and electrical equipment in a suburban school district. The incumbent is responsible for the repair and maintenance of all facilities and
equipment. Does related work as required.

 

Qualifications:
    A. Graduation from high school or vocational school or possession of a high school
equivalency diploma and five (5) years of experience in the building or service trade, one
(1) year of which was in a supervisory capacity; OR
    B. Nine (9) years of experience in the building or service trades, one (1) year of which was
in a supervisory capacity; OR
    C. An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and
(B); AND
    D. Possession of a valid Class 5 New York State driver’s license at the time of appointment.
NOTE: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-
time experience requirements.

Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds and/or Director of Facilities or his/her assistant, allowing considerable leeway for the exercise of independent judgement in the performance of duties.


Supervises: Direct supervision is exercised over a staff of skilled and unskilled employees.
